Prayer Flags |
Healing Heart Talisman |
In the Tibetan tradition, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. There is the belief that the prayers will be blown by the wind to spread the good will and compassion to all. We will discuss various symbols and mantras which may be used as designs upon the flags. A blessing ritual will conclude the class.
Hoop Drum MakingThe hoopdrum is a traditional staple of many musical cultures. The drums I make are hexagonal hardwood frames covered in elkskin. The amazing thing about elkskin is that it stays tighter than the deerskin drums I've made in the past.
A wonderful Lakota friend in Oregon cuts the rawhide and makes the frames all by hand. Here is a picture from a drummaking class of the backs of the drums showing the difference in lacing techniques. Everything is cut, shaped, sanded stained or natural, and ready for you to just lace and personalize your drum with beads, feathers or adornments of choice. You can see the difference in skin opacity in the drums below. They have not been colored, or tanned, but show natural variances with opaque "windows" in some. Every one a work of beauty, and unique!. Class time 5 hours, includes ritual purification of drums and drum meditation. Cost for all materials and class time, $135.00 |
Chakra is a term derived from Sanskrit to indicate one of seven specific centers of spiritual energy in the body. Modern day seekers of light employ the use of crystals and gemstones for healing, meditation, energetic work, and balancing. We will discuss the correlation of color to each chakra, and the corresponding color of the gemstone and share the meaning of our individual talisman. A blessing ritual will conclude the class.
The cost is $25 per person and all materials will be included for you to design two gemstone talismans. Classes held at the Terra Amma Center
